Description
Tawny Owls are rarely seen in daylight. In order to capture the Tawny Owl against the starry sky, I had to use a very specific setup. First, the camera is mounted on a tripod so that it can be triggered remotely and not spook the bird. Then a couple of low-powered flashguns were placed short distance away so that it would illuminate the otherwise unworkable dark foreground. When the Tawny eventually turned up, I fired both the camera and flashes but the shutter remained opened for an extended thirty seconds, enabling the night sky to be recorded in the same exposure. A tricky arrangement but I hope you agree that the result is spectacular.
