Description
Usually only seen as a flash of blue darting away, the Kingfisher is a small but hard to see beautiful little bird. To freeze the action as it leaves the water with a catch takes a bit of planning and many attempts. Even shooting with a modern camera at nine frames a second, at close range, most of the time you would only have two or three frames where you would see parts of the bird. It really is that quick. To get the Kingfisher in the perfect position within the frame requires both luck and patience. I also experimented with shooting at different speeds in order to capture the water droplets at the right size to convey the explosive energy of the dive.
